Thach Ngoc Tran Obituary

Thach Ngoc Tran, 81, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, in Sacramento, CA. Born on March 23,1943, in Rạch Giá, Vietnam, Thach lived a life defined by resilience, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. A proud member of the South Vietnam Navy, Thach’s life was forever changed when the war ended in 1975. Forced to leave his parents, siblings, his son, and homeland, he journeyed to the United States, where he was sponsored by a family in Maine. Though he had lost his country, he never lost his sense of purpose. In late 1970’s, he embarked on a cross-country drive to California, where he reunited with his parents and siblings. In those early years, he dedicated himself to helping fellow refugees adjust to their new lives, guiding them through paperwork, English classes, and the challenges of starting over. This is where he met his wife, Brenda Wong. Over the next 40+ years, they built their lives in Sacramento and had two children: Kathy and Karl.

Thach was a man who valued family above all else. He instilled in his children the importance of working hard, saving money, and staying connected to loved ones. He was most proud to be a grandfather. The way he loved them was what we loved about him.

Thach believed in self- sufficiency, independence, and the bonds of family that endure through every challenge. Despite his disciplined nature, he had a sharp wit and a sarcastic humor that made even the most serious moments unexpectedly lighthearted. His well-timed, sometimes inappropriate jokes were a signature part of who he was—a reminder that even in difficult times, laughter had its place. He was happiest when surrounded by his large family, celebrating holidays and life’s milestones together. He cherished every conversation, every gathering, and every shared meal. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, his love for good food, his stories, and the way he always made time for others.
