In loving remembrance of Cynthia “Cindy” Lee Johnston who, at 76 years of age, passed away
peacefully at home in Stockton, California on December 23, 2025, after several bouts of
pneumonia along with several other medical issues.
Cynthia was born on July 8, 1948, to parents Sam and Pearl Johnston in Sacramento, California
and grew up in the Sacramento area, particularly in Elk Grove. She later graduated from college
in Stockton, California where she eventually resided and began her career as a music teacher.
Cynthia was a great lover of music and was able to share her passion by teaching music at many
of the schools in the Stockton area.
Cynthia’s parents operated a traveling carnival and an amusement park, so she could often be
found working in amusement venues. She loved children and was always delighted to see their
faces alight with joy and excitement. She and Robert, her longtime partner, eventually attended
professional clown school and continued entertaining children as professional clowns “Hiccups
and Sneezy.” In later years she opened her own birthday party business, and with Robert, along
with Tippy, one of her precious chihuahuas, perched atop her accordion, they entertained
countless children as well as many elderly residents at senior centers.
Cynthia will be especially remembered for her fun-loving attitude, enjoyment of life, and
wonderful sense of humor. She always had a smile on her face and took great joy in laughter.
Cynthia is preceded in her passing by her parents, Sam and Pearl Johnston and her niece Kelly
McNaughton. She is survived by her long-time partner, Robert Lee; brothers, Samuel “Sam”
Johnston and Kenneth “Ken” Johnston; along with her nephew, Gordon “Gordy” Johnston; and
Nieces Spring Anderson and Ashley Edds. Her extended family included many well-loved great
nephews and nieces as well as great, great nephews and nieces. She always delighted in
attending as many of their birthdays and other celebrations as possible throughout her lifetime
and always brought with her a special touch of fun and cheerfulness. She and her smile will be
deeply missed.
