Monica Yvette Brown Obituary

Monica Yvette Brown departed her earthly home and entered into the arms of her Lord and

Savior on April 20, 2026, in Sacramento, California.

Monica Y. Brown was born on August 6, 1949, to Roy Lee and Thelma Brown. She attended

Luther Burbank High School and later pursued her education at Sacramento City College. She

dedicated over 20 years of service as an Accountant with the State of California, Department of

Motor Vehicles.

At an early age, Monica accepted Christ and became a faithful member of the Shiloh Baptist

Church (SBC). Throughout her years of service, she held many roles, including Chairperson of

Board of Trustees, a member of the Youth Department leadership, and serving as secretary and

treasurer of the Sacramento Ladies of Charity, LLC. A lover of music, she shared her gifts

through the SBC Silver Echoes, Voices of Shiloh, the Young Adult Choir, and the

Mass/Combined Choirs. She was also a devoted member of the Sacramento Gospel Choir for 15

years and sang in two of their recordings.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee and Thelma Brown; her brothers,

Michael and David Brown; and her spiritual parents, James and Eva Hewlin.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Young; her brothers,

Roy Jr., Kevin; her sister, Regina; her four grandchildren Beira (Mecca), Donovan (Neeky),

Aliyah and Elyssa Young; her great-granddaughter, Bailey; her nieces, Sasha, Tanessa and

Keauna; her best friend and confidant, Claudette Ford; her godbrother, Joseph Ford; her godson,

Javelle Ford; her Goddaughters, Wanda Jackson and Dwan Thomas; along with a host of

cousins, relatives, and dear friends.

Monica was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, goddaughter, and friend. A devoted and true

Woman of God, she faithfully and tirelessly served her church and community for over 50 years.

Whether feeding the homeless, mentoring youth, fundraising for educational scholarships,

participating in outreach events, or singing in the choir, she embodied a quiet strength,

gentleness, and unwavering faith. Beyond her spiritual and family life, she found joy in taking

cruises, attending stage plays, solving puzzles and word searches, and playing Scrabble.

The family of Monica Y. Brown extends sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Dignity

Healthcare and Sherwood Healthcare Center, Mother Alveda Cook for her daily prayers and

encouragement, Claudette Ford and Nettie Gibson, and all who visited, called, texted, and sent

cards. May God bless and keep you all. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the

Lord.”
