PFC Darnell "Sonny" McCowan III, born March 6, 1990 to Carrie Murphy and Darnell McCowan Jr. in Sacramento, CA., passed away while at MCRD San Diego on June 29, 2012. He graduated from Hiram Johnson in 2008 and had joined the Army Reserves in which he served for 4 years. After transitioning to the Marines, he went to San Diego for boot camp where he died doing what he loved best. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Darnell McCowan Sr. Sonny is survived by his mother (Carrie), father (Darnell Jr.), both grandmothers (Mary Murphy) and (Willene Huffman), grandfathers (Charles Bolling) and (James Murphy Sr.), brother (Devin), stepsister (Dejia), Fiance (Jasmine Hamilton), daughter (Sariah), aunt (Carla), uncles (Al and James Murphy Jr.) great aunts, great uncles and a host of cousins. Darnell attended Encouraging Faith Ministry and also Church of the Sovereign God where he came to know Christ. The Viewing will be held at Sacramento Memorial Lawn: Monday, July 9, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Sovereign God, 3232 51st Ave. Sacramento, Ca. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 10:00 am Burial Services will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Rd. Dixon, Ca.
