Obituary of Shiro Albert Tahara

Born February 20, 1925 in Sacramento, CA, entered Nirvana peacefully on May 17, 2012 at his home in Sacramento, CA at the age of 87. Preceded in death by parents Kumakichi and Tsune Tahara, Hatsuko wife of 50 years, brothers Howard, Cooper, and Mitsuo, and sister Mitzi Yamaji. He is survived by brothers Goro (May) and Shig (Carol) and sister Yoshiko Yamanaka (Hiroshima, Japan). Also, survived by children Stanley (Lori), Randy (Denise), Keri (Todd) Nakasone and Michele; grandchildren Kelsey, Haley and Dillon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Shiro retired from the State of California / Caltrans, with more than 31 years of service in Drafting / Architecture in 1987. Shiro will be remembered for his dedication to the Nembutsu and having served 5 terms as President for the Buddhist Church of Florin spread over nearly two decades. He drafted up the plans for the current Florin Temple and helped to see it through to completion. The Florin Temple design was also used to build at least two other Buddhist Temples in Northern California. He was a dedicated, loving family care giver and a loving father who provided endless support for all his children. The family wishes to provide special thanks to Rinban Bob (Patti) Oshita, Dr. Tim Takagi, family and friends for their loving attention to Shiro during his final weeks. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Buddhist Church of Florin, 7235 Pritchard Road, Sacramento CA.
