Obituary of Douglas Kay Larkin

Douglas Kay Larkin, 82, a longtime resident of Sacramento, passed away at his south Sacramento home October 26, 2018 Doug was born January 26, 1936 in Woods Cross, Utah at his maternal grandparent’s home to Nephi and Neva Gwynn Larkin. His early years were spent in Snowville, Utah, Nyssa, Oregon and New Plymouth, Idaho. Following graduation from High School in Fruitland, Idaho in 1954, he trained at Mercy Hospital School of X-ray Technique in Nampa, Idaho. After graduation, he worked in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Veterans Outpatient Clinic and Holy Cross Hospital. In 1958 he worked at the medical clinic in Ontario, Oregon. Doug began his employment in Sacramento at Sutter Hospitals in 1960 as an X-ray technician. In 1968, he became the Program Director for Sutter Community Hospitals School of X-ray Technology until his retirement in 1997. He also taught courses in Medical Terminology and Introduction to Human Diseases for Cosumnes River College. He married Fae Hunter in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 19, 1958. They raised their family of six children in Sacramento, CA. Doug was a member of Sacramento 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served for many years in various positions. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowers and vegetables. His children consider him to be a master gardener. Another interest was family history and he compiled books from journals of his grandfathers and parents. His friends and family will miss his contagious laugh. Doug is survived by his wife Fae and children, Debra Adams, Amy (Warren) Isaacson, Michael (Trina) Larkin, Steven Larkin, 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Sheldon (Shirley) Larkin and sisters Marie (Lee) Roberts and Delia (Bernard) Smith. He was preceded in death by two children, Dennis and Tina, son-in-law, James Adams, his parents and sister Birdeen Willardson. Viewing at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Mortuary will be Friday, November 2nd, 2018; between 6 PM and 8 PM. A private family graveside service will be held at Sacramento Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
