Obituary of Fortunata Urbano (Flora) Urbano
Please share a memory of Fortunata to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born the youngest of eight siblings along the lineage of Hilaria Flora and Emeterio Abubo, of the Flora-Abubo family, Fortunata came into the world October 14, 1925. Before World War II the family migrated from Naguilian, La Union to Baguio City Philippines where she grew up and went to school under American missionaries. At the young age of 21, she met and married Antonio Valdez Urbano and became a young beautiful housewife named Fortunata Abubo Urbano. Many of her known nicknames were Fortune, Bok, Auntie Atang, Auntie Naty, and then Mama Baket. Through the years both struggled, but were fortunate enough to raise a family introducing 18 children into this world. Fourteen were survivors, seven girls and seven boys. Fortunata's husband fought in the World War, by serving in the US Air Force. First they were stationed at Camp John Hay in Baguio City, and then later at Clark Air Force Base. During the time of war, Fortunata remained strong by continuing to devote all of her time loving and caring for her family. When her husband finally retired from Clark in 1980, they immigrated to the United States on a special immigrant visa, bringing along with them the younger unmarried children. The visa was endorsed by the United States Air Force, for total commitment and service. Eventually all 14 children were reunited. As the years passed, Mama Baket continued to faithfully care for her family by taking care of 46 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren directly and indirectly. On November 16, 2014, she became the last survivor and longest living member among her generation of the Abubo-Urbano family. The Lord our God called upon her at 2:48 am and told her that her services on earth were done, appreciated, and more than complete, "Mission Accomplished." She can now come home to reunite with her husband because Jesus Christ prepared a well-deserving place for both of them in Heaven.
