Obituary of Clyde Murrey Sr.

Clyde Lee Murrey, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021 at his home in Sacramento, California at the age of 82.
He was born in Wynne, Arkansas to Reverend Steven and Dulcenie Murrey on May 4, 1938. He graduated from Union Madera High School in 1957. Then in 1959, he married Ina Mae Lee and had two children, Clyde Jr. and Stephanie.
From 1961 to 1963, Clyde proudly served his country as a Medical Specialist in the US Army. He described his time being stationed at Camp Beavers in South Korea as some of the most memorable years of his life.
Additionally, education was extremely important to Clyde. He worked diligently over the course of many years to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration as well as complete two years of law school. While simultaneously completing his education, he also worked for the State of California for 39 years. After a long and successful career, Clyde retired in 1997 as the Deputy Director for the California Department of Mental Health in the Division of State Hospitals.
Over his 39-year career, he received many accolades including special recognition from Governor George Deukmejian and Congressman Robert Matsui.
Aside from achieving a successful career, Clyde was also a world traveler. Some of his favorite travel destinations were Hawaii, Mexico and France. In addition to traveling, Clyde loved to read, cook and talk politics in his spare time.
He is survived by his children Stephanie and Clyde Jr.; grandchildren Zachary, Samantha, Kiana, Ethan, Elliot, Joshua, Jordan, Zaneta and Jasmine; his brother Robert; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Sylvester and his beloved wife Ina.
