Early in life, William accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a life-long member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, which was founded in 1965 by his father Rev. John L. Lewis. There he served as Chairman of the Deacons Board and Trustee of the Church.
William was an esteemed member of the Hiram of Tyre St. Paul Lodge Chapter 48. In 2021, the Lodge established a memorial college fund in his name and on June 5, 2021, he was humbled and honored to give his first academic scholarship away!
William served as the director of the Parent and Teachers Association (PTA) for Sacramento Unified School District in the 1960's and 70's.
