Marjorie Woolsey Shurtz passed away peacefully on July 31, 2021 at the age of 99, just a few weeks short of her 100th birthday. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marjorie was born September 12, 1921 in Escalante, Utah to Earl and LaVern Hardy Woolsey. She was the third of six children. She spent her youth and school years in Escalante where she met her husband, Howard C. Shurtz. They married in November 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are the parents of five children, Douglas, LuAnn, Patsy, Margie and Toni. Marjorie and Howard established their first home in Utah, later moving to Westwood, California, then moving to Sacramento where they purchased their first home. Marjorie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her life. She was blessed with a loving, generous and faithful spirit and was always willing to serve, assist and share her means and talents in any way. Marjorie is survived by her daughters, LuAnn Griener, Margie Stolte and Toni Wright; eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Earline Nelson, four brothers Hardy, Hal, Haynes and Klint Woolsey; her husband, Howard, her son Douglas Shurtz and daughter Patsy Switzer. Marjorie will be honored and laid to rest at a graveside service August 20, 2021 at the Sacramento Memorial Lawn in Sacramento, California. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
