Obituary of Shiu Shankar
Shiu Shankar was born on Nov 5th, 1930, in Suva, Fiji. He migrated to the USA in 1964 and lived in Oakland, CA. Shiu worked as a top journeyman machinist for 42 years. He retired in 1992 and moved to Elk Grove, CA in 2002.
Everyone who met Shiu (“Taji”) thought of him as happy and easy-going. The door to the Shankar home was always open to a large number of family, friends and neighbors. In his active younger days, Taji loved travel, road trips, camping and fishing. In his later years, he loved entertaining people in his home and taking regular trips to the casinos. Taji will be very dearly missed by the many people he positively impacted in his long and fruitful life.
Two of Taji’s children preceded him in death, Bobby Shankar and Kimi Bhattacharya. He is survived by his wife Maya Shankar, his son Paul Shankar and his daughters Manju Maharaj, Shashi Lal and Rohini Krishnan, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his children’s and grandchildren’s spouses, and a loving extended family for many of whom he was a patriarch.
