I met Penny in 1985 when I was hired at the CA Dept of Insurance at 7th and L St. She was the Key Data Supervisor. Few weeks later, she took a promotion to a Data Technician but she had to move to our LA office. Few years later, she transferred to our SF office, and finally returned to the Sac office. She learned programming and we were both working on the IT Fraud team for several years. I left the team but she was always a few cubicles away and we always chatted during the day. I don’t drink coffee but she kept/maintained the Keurig coffee maker. She always had a large bag of Lays chips. As our IT office grew over the years, it was amusing bc Penny only knew coworkers that had cubicles close to her, she wouldn’t know the other 2/3 of the office! By that time, we moved to 300 Capitol Mall. Penny worked hard and hardly would take a break. She would drive to work very early to avoid the Elk Grove traffic.
Penny’s hobbies was taking care of her plants. She liked to try to try to grow tomatoes from seeds she saved from the prior year. She liked flowers, especially dahlias. She liked how well her Wandering Jew plants were growing.
She introduced me to the Hami melon from Costco, which has a very sweet and light texture. She would buy 5-6 at a time. She also liked the black watermelons.
Penny was a very generous and giving friend, I was fortunate to have met her.
