Esther Hernandez Valverde

August 31, 1925 - January 8, 2024

Sacramento, California

We are saddened to announce that our mother, Esther, went peacefully to heaven, completing her 98 year journey here on earth. She passed peacefully in her sleep on January 8 surrounded by family, into the loving arms of God.

Mom's life adventure began on August 31, 1925, in the small town of Cusihuiriachi, in Chihuahua Mexico. It was there that the strong and independent woman she would become was forged by the hardships she overcame. Mom was predeceased by her parents Atocha and Cenobio, and was the youngest and last surviving of 8 siblings.

Mom grew up in Chihuahua, and moved to Los Angeles in her early 20's, and then on to Sacramento where she married and raised her family. She worked at the Del Monte Cannery, and retired from Mercy Hospital where she worked for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening and loved dancing, especially at the local Mexican family and civic social fundraisers. Her travels however, was what she most enjoyed, from local trips, to her visits to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe, and frequent trips to Mexico.

Mom had an impeccable eye for fashion, and carried herself with style and grace. Those who knew her well, knew her humor, generosity and optimism. Her warmth touched everyone she met.

Beloved mother, grandmother and matriarch. She is survived by her three children: Felipe, Jose and Maria, and grand daughter Angela (Jan). Also by friendly adoptive extension: Daniel, Annette (Eddy), and Andrew (dec) Monarque. Not to be excluded, are many nieces, nephews, cousins and god-children.

The family wishes to thank her many caregivers: Glenda, Claudia, Millie, Laura, Carmen and Stacy for all their kindness and attentions to her needs. The staff at Yolo and Sutter Hospice were also a blessing to her and the family. A special Thank You to our brother Jose, who was Mom's constant live-in companion and caretaker, providing her with savory food, good company and endless humor. He was her strongest advocate and provided endless love, compassion and care until the very end.
