Kartar was born on May 1st, 1936, in Ludhiana, Punjab, India and spent many years as a farmer in India. He immigrated to Sacramento, California in 1997. He survived by his wife, Nasib Kaur, three children, Satwant K Johal (Daughter), Shivjot Singh (Son) and Tejwant Kaur (Daughter), ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. His favorite hobbies were to watch news every day, go out for walks, and he enjoyed socializing with any Punjabi/Indian person he met in public and getting to know their background. He dedicated his life to his family, and he will be remembered for his strength and warmth.
