Obituary of Lucy Mehling Byram
Please share a memory of Lucy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lucy Mehling Byram passed away at 92 on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton George Mehling and Martha Mehling and her brother, George Werner Mehling. She is survived by her daughter Michael (Robert) Haugland, son Patrick Byram, loving grandchildren Sara Haugland, Taylor (Santiago) Sabado, Jill (Sean) Kearney, Robert (Kim) Haugland, and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Catania and Cole Kearney. Lucy was born in Yonkers, New York, December 11, 1925 and moved from New York to Sacramento at age 20. She was a payroll clerk for Sutter Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and Sacramento County Office of Education. Lucy loved to travel. Two memorable trips were when she saw Haley’s Comet on a cruise through the Panama Canal and when she took a safari in Tanzania with her daughter in 2011 at the age of 85. After she retired she volunteered at the Southgate Branch County Library, tended her roses, and shelved books at Cedarwood Mobile Home Park, where she resided for the past 33 years. Lucy enjoyed serving her neighborhood as newsletter editor for many years and kept her mind and body sharp with water aerobics, traveling, time with family and friends, reading, and crossword puzzles. Lucy was a cheerful, fiercely independent woman. She will be laid to rest alongside her family at Sacramento Memorial Lawn. There will be a celebration of her life at Cedarwood Mobile Home Clubhouse, 8665 Gerber Road, Sacramento, on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Remembrances may be given in her name to the Sacramento County Library, Shriners’ Childrens’ Hospital, or the Sacramento SPCA.
