Obituary of Betty Marriott Burke

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty was born in Iowa and grew up on a ranch in Colorado. She graduated from Chico High School, Sacramento Junior College, and UC Berkeley. At Cal, she met Glenn, the love of her life and husband for 67 years, who passed away in October 2009. While Glenn served in the Army overseas, Betty worked as director of the Bioassay Lab at the State Department of Food and Agriculture's Bureau of Chemistry. When Glenn returned from WWII, they settled in Sacramento and Betty became a homemaker and mother. Betty and Glenn were charter members of Park Terrace Swim and Tennis Club and were active at Freeport Boulevard Christian Church. Betty made many life-long friends through her affiliations with Delta Zeta Sorority, AAUW, and the PEO Sisterhood. After her children were grown, Betty taught English as a Second Language at Fremont Adult School. In retirement, Glenn and Betty visited Egypt and traveled throughout Europe and Latin America. Betty is missed by her daughters Kathie Jean Park (George) and Karen Burke Redman (Jeffrey); grandchildren Kyle Donovan (Sherri), Teresa Anderson (Matt), Amie Redman (Kevin Rolf) and Nicole Redman; and six great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to a memorial service on May 6th at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, Folsom Blvd & 39th St, Sacramento. The family requests that any memorials go to AAUW Sacramento (2661 Larkspur Lane, Sacramento 95864) for scholarships.
