Obituary of Henry Kiyotoshi Yumikura
Please share a memory of Henry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Henry "Hanko" Yumikura passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born on January 4, 1926 in Sacramento, California to Uichiro and Suye Yumikura. Hanko met the love of his life, Miyeko Onishi, while in a relocation camp. They were married at the Midwest Buddhist Church in Chicago, Illinois on April 14, 1946 and had 60 wonderful years together until Miyeko's passing in 2006. Hanko will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, brother, and friend, and for always being the consummate gentlemen. He was considered a quiet man who will truly be missed by all those who were honored to know him and who loved him. Hanko also will be remembered by those who knew him in his later years by his trademark driver cap. He was never seen without one of his many caps, which made him look quite dapper. He loved wearing those caps as it reminded him of the caps he wore as a child while going to school in Japan. Hanko is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Miyeko, and their infant son, Steven; his sisters Mary Mukai, Daisy Chin, Mae Kinoshita, and Grayce Morikawa; and his brother, Eddy Yumikura. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Matsuda (Brooks) and his sisters Alice Ichiho, Kay Noda, and Francie Morikawa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, California from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Sacramento Betsuin Church, 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, California on February 1, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
